Greenport, New York Train Station - LIRR
Greenport is another of Long Island’s working seaports and is a great place for visitors to head to get a taste of life outside of the hustle and bustle of the main city.
Transport Linkages
Suffolk County Transit Buses serve the Greenport LIRR station, as well as a taxi stand. Greenport Station is also the destination from which the North Ferry to Shelter Island can be linked to.
Around Greenport
Greenport village is akin to a quaint little seaside town, with carousels, ice-cream stands and picnic areas dotted around the waterfront. Numerous restaurants are a great place to try some local seafood, and there are some great little boutiques to grab yourselves a bargain.
There are also plenty of attractions in the area to amuse visitors, including a lighthouse, theatres, Greenport Police Museum, East End Seaport Museum, an ice-skating rink, and the Rail Road Museum of Long Island.
Other Greenport Branch Stations
The first station after the Port Jefferson line branches off from the Greenport line is Bethport. Here there is a great 19th century historic village, with 51 historic buildings which have all been restored to different points in the history of the village.
At the next stop along the line visitors can get off to visit Adventureland, Long Island’s only amusement park.
A couple of stops from the end of the branch, those getting off at Riverhead can visit the Raceway which holds events most weekends. In the summer, Splish Splash waterpark is a good choice to cool down while the Hallockville Museum Farm has an aquarium, sea lion shows and a submarine simulator ride.
The North Fork of Long Island is also home to several award-winning wineries, and Southold is the best stop for visitors to get off if they fancy sampling what is on offer. Southold is also home to several heritage museums and historical trails where visitors can learn more about the heritage of Long Island.
