Jamaica, New York Train Station - LIRR
Jamaica Station is the main headquarters of the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and is the official departure point of most services, even though the Main Line of the LIRR links further west to Penn Station. Jamaica Station is the largest transit station on Long Island, serving over 200,000 passengers daily, and is the 4th busiest station in the whole of New York.
Transport Linkages
In addition to being the main departure station for the various branches of the LIRR, Jamaica Station also has a direct link to JFK Airport with the AirTrain JFK. New York Subway lines E, J and Z connect with Jamaica Station, and several of the NYC's major bus routes stop just outside along with the Long Island Bus number N4.
Around Jamaica Station
Jamaica Station is found in the Jamaica area of Queens, a predominantly African-American neighborhood. The area has several dance clubs and theatres dedicated to reggae music and culture, but is not an area particularly noted for tourism. Instead, Jamaica Station serves mostly as a transit point where Long Island commuters and travelers switch between services going between Manhattan and the east of Long Island.
